Onam Meaning
The most popular pagan celebration in Kerala, India, is Onam. This festival is observed as a farewell to the panen muslims and as a remembrance of Raja Mahabali, a legendary ruler who is said to have instilled courage and loyalty in the people. Hindu mythology states that Raja Mahabali is said to visit Kerala every year during the month of October in order to observe the local populace.
Additionally, Onam is associated with several traditions such as pookalam (hiasan bunga), vallamkali (balapan perahu), tarian, games, and a large event known as Onam Sadhya, where traditional food is served over pisang daun.
